On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

Indicative Content
Transition to Third Level
Making the transition to third level, the academic environment, the modular system, credit accumulation, mandatory and elective modules, note taking, understanding & utilising library resources, how to use the internet for academic purposes, research skills, referencing systems, ethical use of information, e-portfolio preparation, reflective journal practice. The student experience; how academic and social engagement can contribute to life and employability skills.
Team skills
Composition of successful teams. Individual personality types within teams. Stages in team building. Running effective teams. Consensus building and conflict resolution.
Academic Writing and Presentation skills
Writing: basic rules of written communication; writing executive summaries and abstracts; report formats; essay writing; document preparation. Planning an oral presentation; Structuring Information; Voice projection and Modulation; Stance; Facial expressions: Powerpoint; PreziPresenting; Dealing with Q/A session.
