This module introduces the learners to the knowledge, skills and competences necessary for the effective management within the context of the business of Tourism and Hospitality. The aim of this module is to develop the key understanding of managing in the hospitality and tourism business sector, particularly in relation to people, facilities, and the business resource.

Describe motivation and leadership theories and the practical application of these in the workplace, particularly in reference to Human Resource Management and the management of teams and groups. |

Specialisation, chain of command, decentralisation, span of control, mechanistic and organic organisations.

Motivation and Leadership
Motivation theories and practical ways to motivate, current issues in motivation, leadership theories and styles.

Human Resource Management
Responsibilities of a personnel manager, recruitment and selection, manpower planning and performance appraisal.

Teams and Groups
Formal and informal groups, characteristics of an effective team, group motivation, the stages of group development.
