Module Description: Students undertake a relevant five week period or equivalent of work placement in a chosen sector of the Tourism industry. The module is designed to enable students to practically apply knowledge and skills acquired in college. The placement will be supported by a member of academic staff in conjunction with a supervisor or workplace mentor. The experience gained will enable the student to recognise his/her strengths and weaknesses regarding general competence and an awareness of the process involved in developing a career in the tourism industry.

Indicative Content
Application of Learning to the workplace
Application of knowledge and competencies learnt in CIT in relation to the tourism industry. The analysis of work problems and solutions and understanding the link between theoretical course content and its application in the work environment.
Personal Development and Initiative
Analysis of personal strengths and weaknesses. Evaluating performance, setting and achieving goals, multi-tasking, planning work schedule and ability to work unsupervised.
Teamwork
Ability to work as part of a team, accept and learn from feedback received.
Communication and customer care
Demonstrate an application of the most suitable method of communication to use in a given scenario.
