Tourism events and festivals continue to be a fast growing area of activity in both the private and public sector. Students will explore the area of event and festival development and execution including the use of a property management systems (PMS).

Describe the range of event types and organisations involved in the events and festivals field and describe the forces that are shaping the developments in this area. |
LO2 |
Describe the role and functions of the events manager, and the processes associated with planning, organising and managing the operations of events and festivals. |

Identify the components appropriate to specific event types, their provision, presentation and effect on the success of them, and the costs and implications of each. |
LO4 |
Design and operate as part of an effective team in the organisation of an appropriate event. |
LO5 |
Operate the event management and booking modules of a Property Management System. |

Indicative Content |
Event Management Planning
Growth of the events and festival industry and the requirements of event organisers in the public and private sectors. The impacts of events and festivals. Creating the concept with goals and vision.

Event Planning
Identify critical documents required for event planning - event and festival contracts and agreements, trouble shooting and coordination, risk and opportunities analysis of a proposed event/festival, promotional materials and PR. Preparing and presenting the proposal to clients.

The role of the Event Manager and Team
The key role and duties of the event manager and team in the organization of events/festivals. Task and activity planning, time-lines based on the client brief/concept and budget.

Co-Ordination of Events & Festivals
Based on the concept - building the effective staffing structure and duty allocation. Analysis and management of the event admission and registration process, security, the programme of events/festival, F&B, venue presentation /décor/theming.

Event Logistics Management
Site inspection, evaluation, planning and utilisation. Event protocol requirements. Audio Visual and technical requirements and sources. Developing event checklists, activities breakdown and timelines. Use of PMS to book property venues, pricing, billing and building client data.
