Module Description: Analysis of the issues involved in the strategic management and development of organisations, from developing strategic plans by analyzing the internal and external elements that influence the development of a successful strategy within an organisation.

External Analysis - Identification of Opportunities and Threats
External Analysis, SWOT analysis, PEST analysis. Defining the Industry, Sectors, Competitors, Market Segments. Strategic Groups. Industry Life Cycle Analysis. The Global and National Environments.
Industry Analysis and Competitve Advantage
Analysis of Industries and competition, generic strategies, sources of competitive advantage, the value chain, adding value, advantageous resources and capabilities, positional advantage. National Competitive Advantage, Superior Performance and Competitive Advantage. Porters Five Forces Model and Generic Strategies.
The Analysis of Strategic Position
Market positioning school, nature and source of cost advantage and differentiation advantage, market segmentation analysis, value creation and value analysis, strategic group analysis, industry transformation and business models. Students are given two essay type questions worth 35% each,where they must critically evaluate concepts taught during lectures and give real life examples of these concepts been used or not used in business environments.
