Module Description: This module introduces the student to the community workplace as a learning space. The skills deemed significant for community work practice are presented. Awareness of such issues as health and safety and child protection is developed and the student is enabled to interpret these for application in their community placement. The module also addresses the issue of supervision in the community context.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

The nature and characteristics of community work; professional, paid and voluntary work; agencies and organisations in community work.
Policies and Practices
Health and Safety; Child Protection; Policies, practices and procedures within organisations/agencies.
Supervision
The role and practice of supervision; responsibilities of supervisor and learner/worker.
Recording and Reflection
Introduction to recording of workplace activity; introduction to reflective practice.
