Module Description: Business Operations Management focused on Quality and Business Process Improvement. This module will equip the student with the skills for analysing operations management from a strategic perspective,including lean operations and continuous Improvement cycles for Quality and process optimisation.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Describe the components of Business Operations including process design, inventory management and supply chain management.
LO2 Evaluate the principles and approaches to operations strategy development including competitive objectives, location strategy and outsourcing.
LO3 Analyse quality management principles, quality assurance, quality control, quality metrics and quality improvement mechanisms.
LO4 Evaluate Business Process improvement methods.
LO5 Develop a Quality Improvement/Process improvement plan for an identified Business problem using a quality/process improvement methodology.

Product process and service design,evaluating transformed and transforming resources. Process layout, flow and mapping. Job design. Operations planning, control and scheduling.The Stages of Design – From Concept To Specification.
Strategic Operations
Capacity Management. Compeditive strategy Trade offs. Service layout, Supply Chain Management.Procurement and e-procurement best practices. Resource utilization, foreacting and inventory control, JIT, TPS & Location strategy.
Quality Management
Features of a quality management system, role of the quality manager. Quality Control, Quality Assurance & Quality Metrics.Inspection Techniques, Quality Standards such as ISO - Quality Best practices & Quality costing methods. Quality Problem solving tools & Introduction to quality toolbox.
Business Process Improvement
Recognise process improvement opportunities,Process/Quality improvement methods such as -DMAIC six sigma,Business Process Reengineering,Lean Philosophy, the Toyota Lean Toolbox, Total Quality Management (TQM) principles how to apply Lean methods to create a Lean and Agile Supply Chain.
