Module Description: This module introduces the constitution, the political system and government in Ireland and relates it to the development and implementation of social policy along with its implications for communities and their development. It reviews these in the European context and introduces the student to the development of social movements in this regard.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Discuss the Constitution, government and the political system in Ireland regarding community and community development
LO2 Discuss the structure and role of the EU in relation to community and community development
LO3 Discuss the rights and responsibilities, of citizenship, and interpret how these inform work in a community context
LO4 Review the development and implementation of social policy in Ireland with particular reference to the interface between social policy and social issues
LO5 Review the impact of social policy on local communities and how local communities can influence the development of social policy
