Evaluate the team management and leadership styles applied in a structural engineering project. |

Formulate safety plans and statements, undertake risk
assessments and implement suitable control measures. |

Critically evaluate the use and application of different types of construction contracts. |

Implement appropriate financing, tendering, cashflow, cost control and payment processes in a civil engineering construction project. |

Leadership traits. Motivation. Communication. Delegation. Management styles. Leadership styles.
Emotional intelligence. Group theory.

Management and management techniques
Forms of management: scope, time, cost, quality, people, risk, facilities. Change management. Role and
functions of managers. Management and organisation.

Health and Safety
Planning and organising for safety. Regulations. Safety and contract documents. Safety statements and
plans. Hazard and risk identification. Risk assessment and control measures. Monitor and revise
assessments.

Construction and Organisation
Programming and scheduling procedures. Master and detailed programmes. Programming methods:
cumulative progress charts; line of balance charts; bar charts; networks.

Contracts
Admeasurements, schedule of rates, lump sum, cost reimbursement. Design and build contract, PPP
contract, negotiated contract, management contract, public works contract.

Tender documentation
Instructions to tenderers, form of tender, conditions of contract, specification, bills of quantities, drawings,
reports, form of agreement, performance bond.
