Module Description: |
This module focuses on communicative fluency (reading, writing, listening and speaking) in English for the workplace. It addresses itself to students who have already attained a CEFR level of C1 in English as a Foreign Language.

demonstrate ability to apply a range of reading skills to make sense of and respond to a wide range of longer, complex texts in their field, and to identify both explicit and implicit meaning. |

generate longer, complex texts in English on contemporary topics of relevance within their discipline. |

demonstrate knowledge of linguistic variations in global Business English discourse and adopt strategies to respond to these appropriately. |

International professional, workplace and commercial English in use
Analysis of language-in-use in advertising, PR, and corporate communication across English-speaking regions and cultures; analysis and application of key communication conventions.

Workplace English: from application to interview
Analysis and interpretation of job specifications; the language of job applications; preparing for and applying suitable register for job interviews.

Negotiation in English-speaking professional environments
Analysis of language-in-use in negotiation; the language of persuasion, bargaining and concession; application of appropriate linguistic and intercultural skills in the resolution of a problem and/or conflict in an intercultural professional scenario, making use of negotiation, persuasion, concession, and agreement language and skills, as required by the scenario.

World Englishes and Global English
What is 'English'? Social perceptions of Global English, English as a Lingua Franca, and World Englishes and their implications.

Reading comprehension
Advanced reading comprehension and textual analysis skills: extracting information from complex factual, academic and/or professional texts and responding to key ideas stated therein.
