On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO3 Employ in silico bioinformatic tools in the analysis of dietary related non-communicable diseases

Introduction to Nutrigenomics and Nutrigenetics
The role of genetics, genomics, transcriptomics and epigenetics in modern nutrition
Genetic databases
A comprehensive overview of the main databases and the information retrieval systems which provide access to these databases.
Database searching and interpretation
Alignment strategies for DNA (genes and genomes) or protein sequences such that differences or regions of structural or functional similarity are highlighted
Genetics, nutrition and health
An overview of diet related non-communicable diseases (NCD) and their genetic components, case studies of nutrigenomic/nutrigenetic studies
