Module Description: This module provides students with an understanding of the main theories and methods of how communication technologies are used in the workplace. Students will learn to develop, create and deliver a well prepared presentation using appropriate technology and communication skills.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

Introduction to Communication
The communication cycle, interpersonal communication, effective communication, barriers to communication, oral and aural communication, non-verbal communication, perception.
Business & Technology Context
Introduction and definition of workplace communication and technology, role of technology in the workplace and technology trends.
Writing to Communicate
Workplace correspondence, workplace reports, effective use of electronic communication in the workplace.
Academic Reading & Note taking
Referencing, understanding plagiarism. Quoting, paraphrasing, summarising. Bibliography. Checking work for plagiarism using detective software reading skills, note taking, reading critically, summarising material, mind-mapping, avoiding plagiarism, take useful notes when reading, in lectures, or when using online material, keep a record of your references, using software as appropriate.
Presentation Skills
Presentation Skills; stages in structuring, preparing and delivering presentations, common mistakes in presentations, use of various visual aids and multimedia.
