Module Description: The student will produce a business plan or address a specific strategic issue as identified following consultation with their placement centre. All aspects of a business plan or strategy including financial, legal requirements, market research and staffing will be considered.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Conduct a strategy-based needs analysis in a placement centre.
LO2 Collate, analyse and apply both primary and secondary research on the chosen topic.
LO3 Present a structured oral presentation of the proposed plan.
LO4 Develop a structured report outlining the feasibility of the proposed plan.
LO5 Identify recommendations for the placement centre or future entrepreneurs on the merits of this business venture.

Indicative Content
Business Plan
Identify a topic. Conduct a needs analysis with the placement centre.
The Organisational Plan
Business structure, legal structure and organisational structure of the existing business.
Research
Primary and secondary research. Comprehensive market research including Integrated Marketing Communications (IMC) strategies. Questionnaire design, distribution and analysis and/or interviews/focus groups with relevant stakeholders or potential target markets.
The Financial Plan
Identify and discuss the most appropriate source of finance/funding for the business plan including but not restricted to venture capitalist, private investors, capital budget and state/government support. Sources of debt financing, Profit and loss and cash flow projections for the first three years of the plan including cost effectiveness of the plan.
The Operations Plan
Location, layout and physical facility requirements. Operations including staffing, supply systems and Information Technology to bring the plan to reality. Recruitment, policies and procedures for the day to day running of the business.
Further Opportunities
Expansion capabilities and plans for future growth. Recommendations for future ventures within the business. Review and self reflect on the process.
