Module Description: This module outlines the role HR plays in the overall implementation of corporate strategy and how contemporary HR issues influence the implementation of an overall strategy.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Explain how issues of equal opportunities and managing diversity inform and influence HR strategies.
LO2 Discuss the centrality of recruitment, training, development and selection to strategic human resources.
LO3 Evaluate organisational performance against predetermined norms.
LO4 Evaluate the linkages between pay, employee performance, staff retention and organisational performance.
LO5 Discuss the importance of redundancy, dismissal and voluntary turnover in terms of HR strategy.
LO6 Evaluate the role of organisational change in the development and implementation of HR strategy.

Human resource Management components: Recruitment,diversity, equality and reward strategies and their contribution to the implementation of HR strategy and the success of corporate goals and objectives.
• Recruitment, training and development, and selection
The HR planning process.Methods of recruitment and selection.Training and development policies.Training and development needs analysis and programme development.
• Performance management
Clarifying and publishing objectives. Performance measurement. Target setting. Personal development plans. Managing problem staff. Staff appraisal.
• Reward Strategies
Reward systems. Performance related pay. Motivation principles and PRP. Team/Individual reward systems. Rewards for the new flexible workforce.
• Exit management
Exit management strategies. Voluntary terminations. Dismissals. Managing organisational consequences of employee exits. Restructuring/Downsizing.
• Managing organisational change
