This module is designed to introduce students to the practices of management, including Planning, Leading and Controlling, and to provide a knowledge of the role, and importance, of Ethics, CSR and HRM.

Organising, Planning and Control
Options for organisational structure. Planning and organisational goals, perspectives on decision making. Control in organisations, resistance to control and overcoming resistance.

Leading and Motivating
Content and Process theories of motivation. Leadership theories, leadership traits and behaviours.

The Environment and Organisational Change
The internal and external environment as forces for change, managing change, resistance to change.

Ethics and Corporate Social Responsibility
Managing and reinforcing ethical behaviour; business and individual ethics. Concepts of CSR, arguments for and against CSR.

Human Resource Management
The strategic importance of HRM; HR Planning, Performance Appraisal, Reward.
