LO1 Outline the historical development of microbiology
LO2 Describe the diversity of microbial life (including viruses)
LO3 Describe the structure of bacterial cells and explain how specific classes of antibiotics disrupt cellular structures
LO4 Explain the positive and negative impacts of microbes on human society
LO5 Explain how microbes acquire nutrients and grow, and how growth is influenced by external factors
LO6 Explain how physical and chemical methods can be used to control microbial growth
LO7 Explain basic microbial metabolism in the context of food fermentations and food spoilage
LO8 Explain how the human immune system protects against microbial disease
LO9 Perform routine microbiological analysis of samples and interpret data coming from microbiological analysis.
