Module Description: This module provides the student with the knowledge and understanding of the Building and Land Surveying Processes. It outlines and explains the best practice procedures for carrying out Building Surveys. It also provides the student with the knowledge and skill to accurately set- out buildings and structures.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Undertake investigative Building Surveys and produce comprehensive reports.
LO2 Evaluate alternative design considerations for application on Refurbishment and Conservation projects
LO3 Explain the concept of modifying existing buildings for change of use.
LO4 Utilise advanced surveying equipment to accurately survey and set out buildings.

Building Surveys
Forms of Building Survey, condition surveys, safety in carrying out surveys.
Surveying Proceedures
Sequencing, recording, report compilation.
Development and Building Controls
Planning application pre requisites, application procedures, the planning system, decision making, appeals.
Conversion and Adaptation design Issues
Concepts, alternative to replacement,influencing factors, useful life, change of use, technology implications, proposals for suitable conversion.
Land Surveying
Advanced Linear Surveying procedures,coordinated system surveying and setting out procedures.
