Module Description: In this module the student learns the essential skills in the recruitment, selection and the manpower planning process. The module also explores areas that should be considered when attempting to forecast future supply and demand of labour. Retention initiatives and dismissal processes are also discussed in this module.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO2 Recognise the essential skills in the interviewing and selection process.
LO3 Describe the key functions of selection; staffing, retention and communicating with unsuccessful candidates.
LO4 Identify the role of advertising and screening in the recruitment and selection processes.
LO5 Explain how the employee resourcing function can add value to the organisational strategy.

HR Planning
Forecasting future demand, internal supply and external supply, case for HR Planning, adapting traditional HR Planning.
Recruitment
Overview of process. Pre-recruitment process; Job Analysis, Job Description, Person Specification, Terms and Conditions of Employment. Advertising. Recent and new approaches to Recruitment, and recruitment options; out-sourcing, off-shoring, e-recruitment.
Selection
Overview of process. Eliminating applicants outside of candidate profile. Selection for first interview. The interview; panel, preparation, setting-up, etc. Post interview process. Aptitude and other tests.
Staffing
Recruitment, Retention and dismissal. Equality legislation.
