This module introduces the student to the code of practice for the installation and isolation of natural gas and liquid petroleum gas (LPG). The fitting of gas equipment and gas control devices.

LO1 |
Describe gas meter installation, isolation and bonding. |
LO2 |
Categorise gas control devices to ensure safe ignition, to control temperature time or function and to regulate pressure combustion analysis. |
LO3 |
Complete soundness testing and commissioning of equipment. |
LO4 |
Complete combustion testing, the use of combustion electronic analysers and the maintenance of an electronic analyser. |

Safety Standards and Legislation
Building Regulations Conservation of Fuel and Energy TGD L 2005.Irish Standards I.S. 820 Non Domestic Gas Installation. Gas Appliances EU Directive 90/336/EEC.

Gas Meter Installation and Isolation
Gas meter sizes, location and installation. Gas valves, gas regulators and warning notices. Automatic changeover valves (LPG). Gas controls and their uses.

Flues
Operating principles, downdraught, wind effects, thermal inversion, passive stack ventilation. Combustion/compartment ventilation, flue flow test.

Combustion Testing
Why it is necessary to combustion test appliances, combustion requirements, methods of testing. Maintenance of analysers.

Use of U Gauge
Adjusting working pressure, standing pressure and boiler pressure.
|
Installation of Equipment
Room sealed appliances, flueless appliances, open flued equipment, installation within compartments, ventilation within compartment, location of equipment and isolation of equipment.

Bonding
The need for earthing and bonding.
