Module Description: This module covers the competence required to carry out maintenance on steelwork, wood, wires and deck equipment using the correct preparation, tools, equipment and materials.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO2 Complete maintenance tasks on schedule
LO3 Apply safe working practices during maintenance works
LO4 Employ relevant remedial action in the event of an incident, according to organisational procedures
LO5 Safely stow equipment, tools and surplus materials in their designated locations.
LO6 Dispose of waste materials according to good working practice and organisational guidelines.

Preparation
Surface area preparation. Work area preparation and resources required for maintenance.
Materials
Paints, chemicals, lubricants and cleaning materials used for common maintenance tasks. Material Storage and Disposal.
Incident response
Code of Safe Working Practices. Ship Safety Committee. Permit to work system.ISM Code and vessel Safety Management System (SMS)
