Module Description: This module covers the competence required to maintain a navigational watch when underway in all conditions. It includes manoeuvring the vessel on passage. It also covers the competence required to identify emergencies on board a vessel, make an assessment of the incident and take initial action as required by the emergency procedures and contingency plans. At this stage the learner will take responsibility for the navigation watch and manage the emergency under supervision.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
# Learning Outcome Description
LO1 Conduct navigation, in accordance with the passage plan and monitor traffic during the navigation watch in accordance with the International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea.
LO2 Determine and monitor the vessel's position on an appropriate nautical chart (paper or electronic) using all relevant information, updating the charts and publications during the voyage where necessary
LO3 Conduct, relieve and hand over a navigation watch in accordance with established STCW 2010 principles and procedures.
LO4 Choose the appropriate action to deal with a shipboard emergency in accordance with the vessel's emergency procedures.
LO5 Demonstrate relevant actions based on a full and accurate assessment of the incident conforming to emergency procedures and contingency plans
LO6 Organise and compose parties as required to ensure prompt and effective implementation of emergency plans and procedures
