Module Description: This module covers a detailed examination of the evidence base for the actions and medicinal indications of herbs and natural products, including information from traditional sources, pharmacological and clinical evidence.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Critically evaluate traditional, pharmacological and clinical evidence in relation to evidence based practice of herbs/ natural products
LO2 Critically discuss the relevant issues in relation to the safe use of herbs/ natural products in a clinical setting
LO3 Critically discuss the use of herbs/ natural products singly and in combination
LO4 Critically discuss from pharmaceutical and clinical evidence concurrent use of drugs and herbs/ natural products
LO5 Evaluate the role of the monograph format and pyramid of evidence within the legal and regulatory framework for herbs/ natural products

It is recommented that the student have a background in the medicinal use of herbs and materia medica by body systems or equivalent modules at NFQ level 7
