Module Description: This module focuses attention on the practice and importance of communications in the business setting and on the tools and techniques required to operate in an effective professional manner. The module focuses on the development of personal presentation skills and focuses on the importance of networking and relationship building to career and professional success.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

Introduction to Communication Practice
Fundamental communication practices in organisations. Report writing fundamentals.
Corporate and Media Writing
The principles of corporate and media writing. Structure and composition of the news story. The press release as a media tool. Publicity planning.
Presentation Skills
Personal presentation skills. Planning the presentation: content preparation, structure, tone and timing. Defining purpose, identifying key points and clarifying key messages. Content research and time-lining. Holding audience attention.
Visual Communication
Use of audiovisual aids in personal presentations. Use of powerpoint as A/V aid. Design fundamentals of powerpoint - colour, transitions, typography considerations.
Personal Branding and Networking
Defining branding. Advantages of personal branding. Networking skills. Networking on and offline.
