Module Description: |
This module examines textiles in respect to their sources, uses, sustainability and ethics. Garment design and construction techniques are developed to create, repair and repurpose.

Apply various pattern techniques to edit and create original garment/item patterns. |

Creatively construct and evaluate an original design using a variety of construction and
embellishment techniques |

Connect developing practical pedagogical skills and practical based textile and design skills to the Home Economics post primary school classroom |

Repairing, Repurposing, Recycling and Upcycling
Various reparation and alteration techniques. Finding new uses for textiles and methods of adapting them. Promotion of sustainable practices.

Design Principles and Elements
Designing garments with consideration for the design principles and elements and choosing the most
relevant in connection with your brief or theme of inspiration.

Pattern Drafting
Learning pattern editing techniques and how to use them to create new designs. Body fitting measurements.
|
Garment Construction
Constructing a garment from self-created/edited patterns incorporating trend forecasting.
|
Pedagogical Practice
Planning, organisation and facilitation of a practical based class, health & safety, maximising time with appropriate pace and pitch and integration of suitable theory.
