Module Description: This module aims to develop the learners awareness and knowledge of the dimensional model approach to wellness and health. It enables the learner to apply this knowledge to optimise the lives of individuals within the social care field.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO2 Review current major policy documents and reports relating to peoples' lifestyle, resilience, and wellness within the social care context in Ireland. Domains (1.1; 1.3; 1.6; 1.9; 1.17; 1.18; 1.20; 3.7; 3.10; 3.12; 3.13; 3.14; 4.4; 5.1; 5.4; 5.11; 5.19).
LO3 Plan and design wellness and stress management programmes. Domains (1.3; 1.15; 1.18; 1.20; 2.1; 2.3; 2.4; 2.12; 3.1; 3.2; 3.3; 3.4; 3.5; 3.6; 3.7; 3.8; 3.15; 5.10; 5.12; 5.19).

Indicative Content
Health concept
Definition of health and health indicators in Ireland - life expectancy, mortality, and morbidity. Identify key lifestyle behaviours and their influences on Health and Wellbeing (Domains: 1.9, 2.3, 3.6, 3.14, 5.1, 5.4).
Wellness
Eight dimensions of Wellness, self-assessment, and wellness programme design ( Domains: 1.3, 1.15, 1.18, 1.20, 2.1, 2.3, 2.4, 2.12, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4, 3.5, 3.6, 3.7, 3.8, 3.15, 5.12, 5.19).
Stress
The stress response, identifying signs and symptoms of stress, programmes and techniques for stress management. Building knowledge of resilience (Domains 1.22, 2.3, 2.4, 3.1, 5.10, 5.11).
Complementary and holistic health
Current regulations in this field in Ireland, overview of therapies and examination of therapies useful for social care workers (Domains: 1.1, 1.5, 1.9, 3.3, 3.6, 5.4).
Social Determinants of Health
Health inequalities in Ireland and Internationally. Poverty and health relationship (Domains 1.20, 1.22, 4.4, 5.1, 5.4, 5.8).
National policies and reports on lifestyle and wellness
Current national policies and reports in relation to wellness and lifestyle in the social care context (Domains 1.1, 1.3, 1.6, 1.9, 1.17, 1.18, 1.20, 3.7, 3.10, 3.12, 3.13, 3.14, 4.4, 5.1, 5.4, 5.11, 5.19).
