Module Description: The aim of the industrial based placement is to introduce the learner to structured employment in a relevant work sector and to develop in the learner an understanding of the organisation, its procedures and technology. The relevant work placement or project will be no less than 10 weeks duration. The placement will familiarise the learner with work practices and procedures, and provide the learner with the opportunity to experience the practical application of theoretical knowledge gained on his/her programme. The placement/project is supported by a member of academic staff in MTU together with a workplace mentor where applicable.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Apply knowledge, skills and competencies acquired during the programme of study to the analysis and solution of workplace problems
LO2 Maintain a continuous record of training received and activities performed throughout the placement.
LO3 Write a comprehensive report on the placement/project, including the training received, activities performed and experience gained
LO4 Perform an oral presentation based on the final written report highlighting the work done and the experience of Work Placement
LO5 Apply ethical practices, and follow standard procedures, in the workplace while working individually and as part of a team.
LO6 Communicate in a professional manner within the workplace by developing a range of written/oral skills

Learners may be placed in industry, they may be required to complete an in-house project or they may be placed in an educational institute outside of Ireland to complete a project.
