Module Description: This module aims to introduce students to the issues and challenges facing organisations in today's competitive business environment. A particular emphasis is placed on understanding business models, ethics, sustainability , communication and change. This knowledge provides the students with an insight into the demands placed on management in today’s dynamic work environment.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

Porter's competitive forces - existing competition, threat of new competition, substitute products, bargaining power of buyers/suppliers, complementors. Porter's generic strategies.
Business Models
Overview of business models. Sustainable business models. Emerging business models and business model innovation.
Business Ethics and Sustainability
The importance of business ethics, creating an ethical business, the benefits of being an ethical business, the consequences of unethical business activity. Understanding the importance of sustainability in contemporary business and the integration of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in planning and decision-making.
Change and conflict management
Forces of change in the business environment; planned change; managing change; resistance to change; overcoming resistance; conflict management.
Business Communication
The importance of effective and professional communication in contemporary organisations. Reputation management through professional verbal and non-verbal communication.
