Module Description: This module aims to give students an understanding of the issues governing the strategic analysis of organisations IT strategy, from business planning considerations right through to IS strategic planning. Students will examine business cases in IS strategic planning .

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Assess the determinants of global strategies and international advantage as compared to Irish competitiveness.
LO2 Examine the determinants of smooth strategic change and the optional use of outsourcing from a IT strategic perspective.
LO3 Analyse the role of IS in Strategic Planning and the corporate value of aligning Information Systems strategy with the Business Strategy.
LO4 Appraise the ethical and social impact of Information Systems
LO5 Analyse and assess case studies.

The concept of change, strategic change, success and failure, resistance to change, change and individuals, the use of consultants. The development of a IT strategic change process.
Corporate IT Strategy, Outsourcing & IS Support
Corporate and Business Strategy. Integration between Business Strategy and IS Strategy. The relationship between Organisations and Information Systems. Strategic Information Systems. Business models and strategies in the Internet Era. Requirements for effective IS Planning. Reasons for linking IS and Corporate Plans. Business Process Redesign. Students will be given two essay type questions, worth 35% where they will be asked to critically evaluate and research concepts taught during the lectures and then asked to give examples of where these concepts can be seen used in organisations or industry sectors.
