Module Description: |
This dissertation module ensures the student has an in-depth knowledge of the research process including its theoretical foundation and fundamental protocols. This stage of the dissertation completes the data collection and analysis from the previous Research Dissertation module (i.e. Research Phase) for which a research plan and extensive literature review have been completed. Primary research will be conducted, results analysed and a completed research thesis will be written up and presented.

Module Recommendations
This is prior learning (or a practical skill) that is strongly recommended before enrolment in this module. You may enrol in this module if you have not acquired the recommended learning but you will have considerable difficulty in passing (i.e. achieving the learning outcomes of) the module. While the prior learning is expressed as named MTU module(s) it also allows for learning (in another module or modules) which is equivalent to the learning specified in the named module(s).
|
|
Incompatible Modules
These are modules which have learning outcomes that are too similar to the learning outcomes of this module. You may not earn additional credit for the same learning and therefore you may not enrol in this module if you have successfully completed any modules in the incompatible list.
|
No incompatible modules listed |
Co-requisite Modules

Requirements
This is prior learning (or a practical skill) that is mandatory before enrolment in this module is allowed. You may not enrol on this module if you have not acquired the learning specified in this section.
|
No requirements listed |
Indicative Content |
Conduct independent research
The student will undertake a detailed investigation of a topic specifically related to the sport, exercise and leisure industry having already carried out an extensive literature review.
|
Research Methodologies
Development and justification of an appropriate and clearly constructed research methodology.
|
Data collection
Demonstrate a well managed collation of data either through fieldwork research or other methods. Ethical principles are adhered to throughout the process.
|
Academic research and empirical findings
Thorough analysis of data and comprehensive analysis of findings, clear relevant and well argued conclusions which demonstrates the ability to relate theory to practice.
|
Discussion & Conclusion
Key findings are discussed in relation to previous literature carried out in the area.
|
Management of a research project
The student must display a high standard of academic writing which is clearly presented, and uses appropriate referencing. A final thesis will be submitted with abstract, review of literature, methodology, discussion, conclusion chapters.
