Module Description: This module investigates the stylistic elements of popular music from the 80s, through critical guided listening and independent student research.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

Indicative Content
Key Musical Movements and Leading Figures of the 80s:
Critical examination of the key stylistic developments of the era and the musicians/ producers who initiated them.
Cultural, Geographical and Economical Significance:
The music of the era will be examined with reference to the cultural, geographical and economical context in which it was created and developed.
Inspiration/ Influence:
Places the music of the 80s in the broader context of what came before and after.
Continuous Assessment:
The student is monitored on a weekly basis in tutorials. Students will be assessed throughout the semester on the basis of their attendance and the progress of their independent research which will be assessed periodically.
