Module Description: This module enables students to develop their fundamental level aural and auxiliary instrumental skills. Aural skills are enhanced by the singing of intervals and triads and the identification of three and four part chords. Basic repertory is developed on the student's auxiliary instrument.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Demonstrate consolidated basic skills on an auxiliary instrument
LO2 Display stylistic awareness on an auxiliary instrument by replicating fundamental level repertory in time with a click/backing track
LO3 Recognize and identify by ear three- and four-part chords
LO4 Recognize, identify and sing chromatic intervals up to an octave and triads in diminished and augmented form
LO5 Notate by ear short passages in both the treble and bass clef

Indicative Content
Aural skills
Development of basic ear training skills: the recognition and singing of chromatic intervals up to an octave and identification of three part chords (major, minor, diminished and augmented) and four part chords (major and minor chords with a major or minor 7th, 6ths in major or minor form, half diminished chords)
Auxiliary instrumental skills
The development of auxiliary instrumental skills by performing two pieces of basic repertory in time with a back/click track
Aural skills continuous assessment
Students shall be marked on participation and preparedness for each weekly lab.
