Module Description: This module explores the socioeconomic impact of the Great Depression, the period leading up to 'Oklahoma!' (1943) and the subsequent Golden Age of musical theatre.

Indicative Content
Musical Theatre Chorus
Rehearsal and performance of repertoire from the mid twentieth-century; stylistic awareness and characterisation; applied musicianship skills (sight-reading and intervals within an octave).
Repertory Studies
The impact of the 1929 Wall Street Crash and Great Depression; British and American composers of the 1930s and 1940s; the Gershwin brothers, and Rodgers and Hart; 'Oklahoma!' (1943), the Rodgers and Hammerstein era, and the beginning of the Golden Age; developing arguments and establishing critical insight.
Theory and Rudiments of Music
Breves, double dots and duplets; double sharps, double flats and enharmonic equivalents; scales, key signatures and tonic triads up to five sharps and flats; augmented and diminished intervals; the chromatic scale; ornaments.
