Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:
# Learning Outcome Description
LO1 Identify the key components of Human Resource Management and its role in the process involved in managing people in organisations.
LO2 Recognise the overall aim of the recruitment process as a means to effectively attract at minimum cost, the number and quality of employees required to satisfy the human resource needs of the company, derived from the human resource plan.
LO3 Interpret and apply appropriate selection techniques recognising the importance of screening, shortlisting and applying suitable selection methods based on type of job available.
LO4 Recognise learning, training and development as an organisational tool in ensuring the organisation attracts, retains and develops key core employees.
LO5 Explore the legal framework within which human resource management takes place by being familiar with individual employee legislation.

Introduction to Human Resource Management
Key components of HRM and developing human resources in organisations. Historical developments, core activities. Personnel and HR strategy. Specialist personnel management function. Changing role of Human Resource Manager, contemporary issues.
Recruitment in the Tourism industry
Effective People resourcing. Labour market, Human resource planning, job analysis, recruitment methods, e recruitment
Short listing and selecting candidates
Understand the process of selection. Appreciate the role of the screening and short listing process. Recognise the use a short list matrix. Selection methods and appropriate job related interview questions. Structured interviews and the problems associated with unstructured interviews.
Employee Training and Development
Understand key principles in human resource training and development practices. Appreciate how the provision of learning and training opportunities improve individual, team and organisational growth and performance.
Employment law
Provide an overview of the relevant pieces of Irish Employment law and recognise the legal framework within which human resource management takes place.
