Module Description: The first in a series of progressive, practical, skill-centered modules. Directed study in basic vocal techniques required to develop awareness of the different skills required in era specific styles of music theatre singing.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO2 Demonstrate core technical ability through presentation of basic repertory from a wide variety of musical theatre genres
LO3 Present vocal studies appropriate to both legit and popular contemporary vocal styles
LO4 Apply basic vocal health and vocal wellness skills
LO5 Reflect on vocal learning, research and individual practice for legit and contemporary musical theatre and pop vocal qualities

Indicative Content
Technique
To develop core breathing and vocal technique through exercises and addressing basic technical challenges including speech quality, sustaining long notes and securing pitch.
Repertory Studies
Introduction to music theatre repertoire appropriate to legit, contemporary and popular vocal styles specific to a prescribed era.
Analysis
Analysis of repertoire identifying different techniques required such as laryngeal movement, vocal tract shapes and vocal qualities.
Vocal Wellness
Outline basic vocal health and wellness skills
Reflective Practice
Reflect on practice and progress by means of a weekly journal submission on Canvas.
