Module Description: This practice placement will take place in a professional social care setting, providing students with an opportunity to apply their knowledge, skills and key theoretical concepts. On completion of this module students will have experienced the implementation of the Social Care Workers Registration Board Standards of Proficiency for Social Care Workers. The placement experience provides students with a unique opportunity to experience and gain insight into the variety of settings and areas in a social care practice context. Students will know, understand and apply the key concept of the domains of knowledge that are relevant to their practice placement.

This module maps to the Standards of Proficiency for Social Care Workers from within the following domains:

Domain 1: Professional Autonomy and Accountability.

Domain 2: Communication, Collaborative Practice and Team working.

Domain 3: Safety and Quality.

Domain 4: Professional Development.

Domain 5: Professional Knowledge and Skills.

Learning Strategies:

Students will be provided with the opportunity to apply practice skills on placement and to demonstrate an ability to apply research/theory to practice in accordance with written learning agreements drawn up in consultation with their supervisors.
Students will be professionally supervised so as to optimise their professional development.
Students will be required to complete a range of tasks on placement designed to enhance their learning. They will be required to maintain daily reflective logs and weekly supervision logs and to write brief reports on the various professions they encounter. They will be required to familiarise themselves with workplace policy and procedure reports and manuals, to visit other social care providers and to write an Intervention Paper on an aspect of work they have completed.

Professional autonomy and Accountability
While on placement students will have the opportunity to demonstrate professional autonomy and accountability and begin the process of professional development. Students will demonstrate knowledge and application of The Social Care Workers Registration Boards Standards of Proficiency & Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics and the Standards of proficiency. Standards of Proficiency
Students will demonstrate a thorough understanding of The Social Care Workers Registration Board Standard of Proficiency through the submission of completed task sheets, tripartite meetings, placement assessment by placement practice supervisor and educator and the completion of the assigned written assessment. (Domains:1 to 5 inclusive).
Further development of interpersonal and professional skills
Students will demonstrate their professional ability to engage with both service users, other professionals and key stakeholders to further develop professional relationships. Students will identify and observe various leadership and management styles throughout their supervised practice placement. Students are required to achieve a mark of 40 % or greater in each assessment component to pass the module. Repeat Assessment Strategy (a) Failure of Practical/Skills Evaluation component: A repeat placement the duration and details of which are decided by the Placement Committee. (b) Failure of Performance Evaluation component: resubmission of coursework. (c) Non-attendance at Debriefing: written assignment.
