Module Description: This practice placement will take place in a professional social care setting, providing students with an opportunity to apply their knowledge, skills and key theoretical concepts. On completion of this module students will have experienced the implementation of the Social Care Workers Registration Board Standards of Proficiency for Social Care Workers. The placement experience provides students with a unique opportunity to experience and gain insight into the variety of settings and areas in a social care practice context. Students will know and understand the key concept of the domains of knowledge that are relevant to their practice placement.

This module maps to the Standards of Proficiency for Social Care Workers from within the following domains:

Domain 1: Professional Autonomy and Accountability.

Domain 2: Communication, Collaborative Practice and Team working.

Domain 3: Safety and Quality.

Domain 4: Professional Development.

Domain 5: Professional Knowledge and Skills.
Students will be provided with the opportunity to apply practice skills on placement and to demonstrate an ability to apply research/theory to practice in accordance with written learning agreements drawn up in consultation with their supervisors.
Students will be professionally supervised so as to optimise their professional development.
Students will be required to complete a range of tasks on placement designed to enhance their learning.

Professional Autonomy and Accountability
While on placement students will have the opportunity to demonstrate professional autonomy and accountability and begin the process of professional development. Students will demonstrate knowledge and application of the CORU social care workers Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics and the Standards of proficiency. Special Regulation
Students are required to achieve a mark of 40 % or greater in each assessment component to pass the module. All 80 standards of proficiency are assessed in the Practical / Skills Evaluation and all must be met in order to pass this component of the module.

(a) Failure of Practical / Skills Evaluation component: A repeat placement the duration and details of which are decided by the Placement Committee. (b) Failure of Performance Evaluation:as per Reassessment Requirement specified in the Module Descriptor.

Assessment Description
Portfolio of Work Placement documentation submitted to the Practice Educator (MTU). This will include daily reflective logs, weekly supervision logs, brief reports on workplace experiences reflecting the Standards of Proficiency.

No End of Module Formal Examination
Reassessment Requirement
Coursework Only
This module is reassessed solely on the basis of re-submitted coursework. There is no repeat written examination.
