Module Description: The aim of this module is to introduce students to a variety of social care settings in preparation for practice placement. This module introduces students to interprofessional practice and team working in meeting service user needs. This module will introduce the supervision process, reflective practice and an introduction to risk management. The Social Care Workers Registration Board, Code of Ethics and Fitness to Practice are central to the preparation of students for practice placement.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

Pre Placement Preparation
Submission of CV, placement request forms, placement contracts and preparation for interview. (Domain:5.1) Exploration of placement opportunities and developing knowledge of the various social care areas (Domain:4.1) Preparation to meet potential placement providers and to attend for interview. Special Regulation
A minimum of 80% attendance at lectures and tutorials is required to pass this module and to progress to PLAC6026 Practice Placement 1. If the student fails to meet the 80 % attendance requirement, irrespective of reason, they must repeat and attend in order to pass the module.
Students are required to achieve a mark of 40 % or greater in each assessment component to pass the module.
It is mandatory to submit all elements of the portfolio.

Assessment Description
Portfolio of relevant placement documentation, CVs, placement request forms, placement contracts, certificates demonstrating successful completion of HSeLanD, FAR, MAPA and manual handling training. Evidence of professional knowledge, accountability, interprofessional practice, teamwork and conflict resolution, and knowledge of the supervision process should the student encounter conflict. Students will need to engage with self-directed learning to identify how to manage this. Assessment Description
Using a case study students will be presented with a risk scenario. Students will identify and assess the risk and recommend risk management processes, such as control measures informed by the risk management framework. Students will reflect on this scenario through the use of reflective frameworks linking theory to practice.
