Module Description: This module charts the development of musical theatre from prehistoric times to the eighteenth-century. It also introduces academic writing, basic music theory, and develops applied musicianship skills through participation in a musical theatre chorus.

Musical Theatre Chorus
Professional etiquette; rehearsal of music in both unison and parts; rhythm, ensemble and breath; memorisation work; applied musicianship skills (sight-reading and fundamental major intervals [1, 3, 5, 8]).
Repertory Studies
Prehistoric customs and ancient civilisations (Greece and Roman Empire); development of theatrical infrastructure and dramatic narrative; commedia dell'arte; use of music and the rise of opera; politics, society and 'The Beggar's Opera' (John Gay); theatre in pre-Revolution America; academic writing and presentation.
Theory and Rudiments of Music
Clefs, note names and key signatures (C, G, D, F majors); time signatures, barlines, note values and rests; articulation (ties, slurs); major scales, intervals and triads.
