Module Description: In this module students will develop an understanding of diverse painting practices. This will be done through supportive workshops that unpack concepts and working processes relevant to contemporary painting.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO2 Engage in technical research that explores multiple approaches to painting.
LO3 Critically reflect on historical, contemporary and theoretical contexts appropriate to their own painting practice.
LO4 Create a portfolio of paintings that display an experimental approach to the relationship between processes and ideas.
LO5 Apply responsible use of materials, equipment and workspace, evidencing an understanding of relevant health & safety concerns and environmental sustainability.

Indicative Content
Practical
Introduction to workshop activities that explore a diverse range of painting processes. Explore hybrid working methods and analyse traditional and experimental painting techniques in relation to image based and abstract painting processes.
Group Critique
Group discussions looking at contemporary and historic perspectives on the evolution and expanse of painting practices and methodologies. Engage in collaborative and individual presentations.
Research
Record and document workshops, painting demonstrations and ongoing experiments. Identify and gather relevant source material, critical texts and reference material that analyse processes within painting practice.
