This module aims to provide a practical foundation in colour theory through painting. This will be done through practical workshops exploring multiple methods of constructing colour. This module's focus is to provide a framework for students to apply colour theory to their own painting practice.

Analyse and critically reflect on the historical, contemporary and theoretical contexts of their own and other painters' explorations of colour theory. |

Develop a wide range of paintings that demonstrate a competent integration of colour theory research and practice that is proficiently independent. |

Indicative Content |
Practical
Introduction to the analysis and application of colour theory, colour mixing, colour bias and temperature, chromatic greys and the atomic, layered and optical construction of colour to one's own painting practice.

Research
Record and document workshops, demonstrations and independent painting experiments. Collect and annotate relevant literature on colour theory as a means of situating one's use of colour within the broad field of contemporary painting.

Group Critique
Group discussions exploring the historical, contemporary and theoretical approach to colour mixing in contemporary painting.
