Module Description: The dissertation module is designed to provide an opportunity for students to undertake a substantial academic project in the area of Hospitality and Tourism. This stage of the research project is designed to expand the previous dissertation module and develop the research problem, conduct primary research, analysis and present results.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Conduct independent research at undergraduate level into an area of academic interest relative to the tourism and hospitality industry.
LO2 Manage a research project through from conception to final report stage and justify findings and research choices.
LO3 Conduct primary research relevant to the research topic.
LO4 Develop analytical skills in primary research and link academic research and empirical findings.
LO5 Construct a document detailing a literature review, methodology, research findings and analysis.

Indicative Content
Conduct Independent Research
A detailed investigation into a topic specifically related to the tourism and hospitality industry. An extensive literature search and critical evaluation of previous research related to the area under investigation.
Managing a Research Project
Display a high standard of writing, clearly presented with the use of appropriate referencing; defence and justification of research also required.
Research Methodologies
The adoption of an appropriate and clearly constructed research methodology and methods.
Developing Practical Skills
Demonstrate a well managed collation of data whether through fieldwork research or by other methods.
Academic Research and Empirical Findings
Thorough analysis of data and comprehensive analysis of findings; clear relevant and well-argued conclusions; the ability to relate theory to practice and industry.

Final Dissertation will be submitted at semester end. Students are expected to meet assigned supervisors on a weekly basis for feedback and guidance.
