Module Description: This module is designed to provide non-business students with a clear understanding of the importance of innovation to the success of the firm and to the economy at large with an International perspective. It will explore the different classifications of innovation and the process of managing innovation effectively within the organization in addition to the creative process at company level. This module will provide students with an excellent grasp of the principles underlying creative thinking and problem solving and how to map innovation opportunities. This module will explore different types of innovation strategies, how to develop partnerships across organizational boundaries and how to involve people and share knowledge. Students will also discover tools and techniques for developing ideas and managing innovation.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Analyse the nature and importance of Innovation to enterprise and view innovation as a management process.
LO2 Evaluate the relationship between creativity and innovation in business development.
LO3 Evaluate innovation opportunities and the core capabilities for innovation within an organisation.
LO4 Evaluate the new product development process; managing teams and pathways to commercialisation and rules and regulations governing intellectual property rights.
LO5 Define the role of relationships and networks in innovation and analyse possible sources of innovation internally and externally.
LO6 Determine how innovation could be effectively managed in the case of a local based company.
