Module Description: An introduction to the field of Dramatherapy: The learner will begin to explore this Creative Arts Therapy through experiential workshops and will consider its theoretical underpinnings, the core processes through which it works and its uses and applications.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

Indicative Content
What is Dramatherapy?
Dramatherapy is a Creative Arts Therapy which exists in many forms. The key elements of Dramatherapy, the core processes through which it works and what can be achieved through it will be explored both theoretically and practically
Theoretical Foundations
Dramatherapy has its theoretical foundations in and draws from concepts and practices within psychology, theatre/drama, psychoanalytical theory, anthropology, theories of child development, play and interactive and creative processes
Drama Activities and Theatre Techniques
The learner will begin to engage with a range of drama/theatre activities and techniques. These may include spontaneous and dramatic play; drama games; mime and role play; working with music and sound; scripts and poetry; paint, clay and art work; puppetry and mask work; myths, metaphors and symbolism
Session Structure
The importance of a Dramatherapy session structure and the various components within it will be studied and explored by the learner through participation in and analysis of dramatherapy sessions
Professional and Ethical Issues
The need for and adherence to professional and ethical guidelines, registration with national bodies of Dramatherapy etc will be explored
