Module Description: |
This module will focus on how best to use the Arts as a pedagogical tool within the early childhood education and care sector. Students will devise developmentally appropriate learning opportunities for children from birth to three and three to six. Avenues of investigation and exploration, through Music, Art and Drama will be explored using an Inquiry Based Learning approach. National Frameworks, Regulation and Guidelines (e.g. Aistear and Siolta) will inform the structure, delivery and assessment of the module.

Visual awareness, communication and expression. Selecting appropriate provocations. Exploring transient art, small world and pretend play. Examining the theory of loose parts. Developmentally appropriate learning targets. Communicating objectives and methodologies as per Inquiry Based Learning Approach. Utilising materials such as light boxes, provocation trays and projectors effectively and efficiently. Addressing; social, emotional, cognitive, physical and language development. Subject linkage. Health and Safety considerations.

Creative, imaginative role and flexible play. Focus and engagement. Voice, body and movement. Communication and expression. Selecting appropriate provocations. Exploring small world and pretend play.
