Module Description: |
This module aims to introduce students to the Artistic Elements within the disciplines of Music, Art and Drama. The Artistic Elements will be central to the concepts explored within experiential workshops. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of approaching the Arts as process-led rather than product/ performance driven. Appropriate learning provocations will be used to demonstrate how best to promote authentic experiences for the child birth to three and three to six. National Frameworks, Regulations and Guidelines (e.g. Aistear and Siolta) will inform the structure, delivery and assessment of the module.

Indicative Content |
Elements of Music
Timbre, Pitch, Texture, Tempo, Duration, Structure & Dynamics. Multiple methods by which to create sound; voice, body, everyday objects and natural environment.

Process led Music
Basic Musical concepts; beat, rhythm, melody and harmony. Use of non-conventional materials and objects with which to explore and create sound. Song as an expression of combined musical elements

Elements of Art
Line, Shape, Form, Colour, Texture,Value and Space. Non-conventional natural and recycled materials. Disciplines; sensory exploration, mark-making, paint, printmaking, light and shadow, negative and positive space.

Process led Art
Aesthetics- Process as Self Expression, Visual Awareness and Communication. Process over Product, Child-Led verses Adult Directed.

Elements of Drama
Role, Rhythm, Voice, Space, Contrast, Symbol and Time. Multiple methods to communicate meaning; body, voice, environment, movement and language.

Process led Drama
Use of everyday objects, visual imagery, drama props, story sacks, sequencing, imaginative and spontaneous play, role play, the non structured space, meaning making and expression through movement
