Module Description: The module aims to further build on and develop the concepts, skills and competencies required for the successful operation of the Rooms Division Function in a Hospitality business at fundamental level.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO1 Identify and describe the function of operational plans for the direction and control of Rooms Division Operations.
LO2 Discuss the function of linen and laundry operations.
LO3 Describe the basics of integrated pest management and identify hygienic and sustainable waste management practices.
LO4 Complete registration, GDPR and guest folio tasks in Front Office using a Property Management System (PMS).
LO5 Explain the role of Front Office in selling hotel services, products and facilties.

All students must be certified in Manual Handling, Ecolab and "Food Safety for You" before taking part in practical elements of the module. Students must have successfully completed and passed all elements of Fundamental of Rooms Division before undertaking this module.
 
Indicative Content
Accommodation Operations
Opening and closing duties, co-ordination and communication between shifts and across departments, daily routines and sub-routines, inventory management. Organise and perform the servicing of guestrooms and public areas to the standard required by commercial accommodation business.
Accommodation - Linen and Laundry
Planning, layout and activities of the linen room, Stain removal and interpretation of commonly used care labels, handling of guest laundry. Linen and Laundry systems, Linen quality and control.
Accommodation - Pest Control and Waste Management
Reasons for pest control , common pests and implementation of pest management programmes. Waste management - types of waste, measurement, segregation, reducing waste in the accommodation sector.
Front Office Procedures and Practice
Pre-registration activity, registration records, room and rate assignment, GDPR and selling. Account folios, maintenance of guests accounts, electronic point of sale transactions and account settlement. Recognition of training and communication. Credit control.
Front Office Theory
Sales techniques, key performance indicators, room rates, occupancy levels, guest satisfaction, training skills and staff motivation.
