Module Description: This module introduces artist moving image techniques and processes through practical workshops and an understanding of the relationship between between analogue and digital media processes.
 
Learning Outcomes
On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO2 Demonstrate practical competence with moving image making equipment, materials, and processes.

LO5 Create a competently presented and conceptually engaged exploration of a subject within a fine art context.

Indicative Content
Critical Seminars
Presenting research and developed work, articulating ideas and relationship to processes, group discussions and peer critique.
Creative interpretation of multimedia
The potential for exploitation of the interrelationships of still image, moving image, sound and light.
The role of language
The plasticity of the moving image and its potential for exploitation of conventional representations of language: recorded spoken dialogue, voice over, narration, subtitles, other on-screen text and photography of printed text.
Re-appropriation
Utilising second hand sources and found footage.
Installation, presentation and expanded cinema
Workshops on the technical, aesthetic and conceptual issues surrounding the installation of work. An introduction to the use of image source devices, projectors, sound amplifiers and speakers, lights and spaces.
Critical context
Critical self-reflection and presentation of their work as part of a group discussion.
Gallery visits and screenings
Visits to view work of relevant artists at gallery exhibitions and film festival screenings.
