Module Description: A focus on start ups and micro businesses operating in Ireland. Students will make comparisons to large businesses using case studies. Students will conduct an analysis on how these micro businesses initially set up and the supports available to assist them; as well as obstacles encountered.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

LO2 Analyse the stages of developing and launching a micro business in Ireland.
LO3 Apply the SWOT analysis to the micro business industry in Ireland.
LO4 Examine relevant sources of private and public assistance and finance available to Irish micro enterprises.
LO5 Investigate the contribution and impact of large companies to the micro business sector in Ireland.

Entrepreneurship
Entrepreneurial personality, traits, characteristics, types and activity. Social, inclusive, tech and food micro enterprises
Business Development
Business set up, registration process, business development cycle.
SWOT analysis
Strengths; weaknesses; opportunities; threats industry analysis;
Enterprise Supports
Sources of private and public funding for micro businesses. Enterprise support agencies at local and national level
Large Companies
Case analysis of large companies operating in Ireland. Comparison to micro business. Sustainability in micro businesses versus large companies
