Module Description: This module studies fundamental concepts underlying financial management,including how a business is financially structured and how to plan financially for business profitability.

On successful completion of this module the learner will be able to:

Indicative Content
Overview of Financial Management
An overview of finance, financial statements and cash flow. Financial statement analysis.
Costing
Basic costing, fixed and variable costs, marginal costing, standard costing, terminology. Calculating service department charge out rates.
Break-Even Analysis
Compilation and interpretation of break-even charts, limitations of charts, determining break-even by calculation.
Cash Forecasting
Cash flow forecasts, compilation and interpretation.
Profitability
Theory of profit, departmental profitability, profit maximisation, profit planning and graphs, profit measurements.
Business Financial Planning
Sources of short term and long term finance, principles of financial control. Financial restructuring, banking principles and practice, working capital, liquidity, inventory and credit management, creating of business plan, insurance, funding business expansion.
