# Learning Outcome Description
LO1 Formulate and communicate design strategies for commercial interior architecture projects.
LO2 Make informed decisions regarding 'fit for purpose' materials & finishes responding to a range of sources and design development scenarios.
LO3 Understand and illustrate an awareness of the way technical, environmental, material and constructional strategies inform the design process.
LO4 Identify the social and economic factors pertinent to the development of commercial interior architecture strategies.
LO5 Illustrate an understanding of spatial design across multiple levels.
LO6 Integrate relevant regulations and standards in commercial interior architecture design strategies.

Module Recommendations

This is prior learning (or a practical skill) that is strongly recommended before enrolment in this module. You may enrol in this module if you have not acquired the recommended learning but you will have considerable difficulty in passing (i.e. achieving the learning outcomes of) the module. While the prior learning is expressed as named MTU module(s) it also allows for learning (in another module or modules) which is equivalent to the learning specified in the named module(s).

Incompatible Modules
These are modules which have learning outcomes that are too similar to the learning outcomes of this module. You may not earn additional credit for the same learning and therefore you may not enrol in this module if you have successfully completed any modules in the incompatible list.
No incompatible modules listed

Requirements

This is prior learning (or a practical skill) that is mandatory before enrolment in this module is allowed. You may not enrol on this module if you have not acquired the learning specified in this section.

Indicative Content
Commercial Food & Retail Interiors
Introduction to the fundamental basics of the design process for multi-level single unit commercial food & retail projects. Emphasis is on research & analysis of exemplary architecture, and focused design development & exploration; in the form of freehand drawing & model making. And on the adaptation & re-use of existing buildings in order to promote an understanding of integrated design solutions that acknowledge structure & form, address technical, functional & visual criteria, and comply with the relevant codes and legislation.
Sketch Model Design
Advanced sketch/study modelling for commercial food & retail projects. Exploration of materials & finishes to communicate design proposals, and make informed design decisions in 3-dimensions. Emphasis is on using the model as a basis for focused spatial & detailed design decisions.
Concept and Detailed Sketch Design
Advanced concept and detailed sketch design proposals for commercial food & retail projects. Brief analysis, and client, end-user & building type profiling. Emphasis is on building/design precedents and the exploration of form, space, material, finishes, colour palettes and detailing in order to illustrate more complex & focused design intent.
Final Design & Presentation
Advanced final design proposals & presentation for commercial food & retail projects. Emphasis is on 'fit for purpose' innovative & sustainable design solutions that meet a specific design brief and programme. And design/graphic representation & oral presentation skills to communicate more complex & detailed design strategies, both verbally and non-verbally for critique and evaluation
